MSNBC News service has just reported an incident where a US and Russian Satellite have collide in orbit in space. This has been reported as the first ever crash of two intact orbiting satellites in space. The collision caused large debries to scatter and a debrie cloud to form, this could post a slight risk to the International Space Station
NASA says it could take them weeks to determine the magnitude of the crash, they say that the danger to the International Space Station and its crew would be minimal as it is orbiting some 400 kilometers below where the collision happened. The collision itsself happened 800 Kilometers above Siberian territory.
The US satellite was a commercial Iridium communication satellite, whereas the Russian sattellite was nonfunctioning and was out of control. Complete story details are available at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29147679/
